When life gives me lemons, I don’t just make lemonade; I redesign the whole recipe.
And when the environment becomes too neutral, too predictable, I move, seeking growth, adventure, and meaning.
For me, life is about growth, adaptation, family, and peace. We all do what we do for different reasons. Here’s mine.
Leaving Comfort Behind
In the heart of Enugu, Nigeria, I built a stable career in banking. It was familiar, structured, and secure. Banking gave me discipline, sharp attention to detail, and a deep respect for customer service.
But under the surface, I craved more: more creativity, more flexibility, and more purpose.
When the opportunity to move to Canada came, I didn’t just pack my bags; I packed my dreams of pivoting into tech.
Why I Left Banking
Banking gave me a strong foundation, but I knew I wanted to solve real-world problems in more innovative ways.
Traditional banking roles are often rigid. Innovation comes slowly, and personal growth even slower. I wanted the freedom to experiment, build, and evolve.
If you’re planning a journey like this, remember:
Carry your values first. The luggage follows later.

Starting From Scratch
Canada isn’t just snowflakes and scenic fall photos.
It’s also humbling. It tests your values, patience, and persistence.
My Nigerian experience was meaningful but often unrecognized. I faced rejections, imposter syndrome, and long nights juggling part-time jobs while studying, volunteering, and networking.
Still, I kept moving forward.
How I Broke Into Tech
I didn’t have it all figured out. But I stayed intentional:
- 📚 Upskilled through Coursera, freeCodeCamp, LinkedIn Learning
- 💼 Explored fintech to bridge my banking background with tech
- 🤝 Volunteered to gain practical experience and build a portfolio
- 🌐 Networked consistently through LinkedIn and local meetups
- 🎥 Leaned into YouTube as a tutor and motivator
My Advice to You
If you’re on a similar path, here’s what I’ve learned:
- Embrace your past—your story matters.
- Be patient but relentless.
- Learn, unlearn, and relearn.
- Start even if it’s not perfect. Just start.
Where I Am Now
Today, I’m not just in tech—I’m thriving in it.
And if you’re wondering whether you can make a move like this too, remember:
You can. You’re not starting from scratch. You’re starting from experience.
